The Great Ocean Road. A world-famous, enthralling tourist magnet, wrapping itself around the Victorian coast. Popular with foreigners or travelling Aussies, drawn to its raw beauty and majestic lookout points, the Great Ocean Road is a popular route that showcases the exceptional coastline of this pocket of Australia.
When you think of the Great Ocean Road, you probably think of the obvious attractions- world-renowned surfing hotspot Bells Beach, the hippie shores of Lorne and the slowly-disappearing Twelve Apostles, that see scores of visitors year-round.
If you have an upcoming holiday booked, but no plans- consider hitting the winding Great Ocean Road. As well as those ever-popular stops along the way, there are a few hidden treasures that cater for those looking for the more unusual and lesser-known sights. SIXT have you sorted with just a few
Otway Fly Treetop Adventures
So, you’ve picked up your SIXT Car Rental from one of our many locations in Victoria including Melbourne Airport, Melbourne CBD, Avalon or Geelong and are ready for your Great Ocean Road trip.
Easily accessible and slightly inland from the coastal townships of Lorne or Apollo Bay, you will find the little-known but immensely popular Otway Fly Treetop Adventures. Choose from either the one-hour Treetop Walk and take in the breathtaking beauty and stillness of the Great Otway National Park from above, or for those adventure nuts, try the 2.5 hours Zipline Eco-tour. This option, complete with six zipline sections, eight look-out points and a tour guide with you the entire time, also ends with the inclusion of the Treetop Walk. It’s the only zipline tour in Victoria, so all the more reason to tick it off the bucket list! Keep an eye out for koalas in the trees as you are zipping by!
Blazing Saddles Trail Rides
Between surfie towns of Anglesea and Lorne on the Great Ocean Road, you will find the ever-popular relaxation spot of Aireys Inlet. Once you have checked out their breathtaking beaches and taken some time to recoup- Blazing Saddles Trail Rides is an absolute must.
With a stable of over 40 exotic horses, Blazing Saddles offers an endless number of tours to suit larger groups or a more personal tour for just a few. A popular seaside town, Warrnambool is the perfect spot to take a hard-earned rest after your long drive and bunker down for a couple of days. For those looking for something a little strange and unusual to tick off their to-do list in this quaint town, try Allansford Cheese World, ten minutes east of Warrnambool. It’s the perfect spot for cheese lovers to taste test and pick up some local award-winning cheeses, and to find out how cheese is really made. They also house fresh local milk, are famous for their milkshakes and have an extensive gift shop full of cheese-related souvenirs for friends and family back home. Who doesn’t love cheese, really?
