- [Geneva](https://www.sixt.com.au/car-hire/switzerland/geneva/): this highly cosmopolitan city is one of the world’s most famous, not least for founding the Red Cross organisation. Lake Geneva is its jewel, and its most famous symbolic landmark is Jet d’Eau, a water jet that shoots water almost 160 yards into the air from the lake surface. Also visit Jardin Anglais where you’ll find the city’s symbol of its watchmaking heritage, the flower clock.

Fraumünster is an abbey founded in 853 AD and a popular tourist attraction for its Marc Chagall stained glass windows created in the ‘70s. For relaxing walks drive to Lindenhof near the old town, a shady park overlooking a river.

Then drive to the highest point, Münsterhügel (Minster Hill), where you’ll find Basel Minster, originally a Roman fort.

Good to know when renting in Switzerland
In Switzerland the minimum rental age is 20 years old, anyone hiring the car must hold a valid licence for at least a year, and there’s a small fee when under 25.
If you are finishing the trip at a different city or country simply select the other location using the booking tool to see if this is available, a one-way fee will apply.
Always drive on the right-hand side and if on the motorway the maximum speed is 120 km/h (100 km/h on highways). Your headlights must always be on.
If you need additions to your booking, we can include sat navs, child seats and additional drivers, as well as snow tyres and ski racks, each for a small fee.
If your Swiss trip changes opt to ‘pay later, this way cancellation is free up to the day of pick-up.
Non-EU licences must provide a passport and it's suggested you carry an International Driving Permit, if in Europe for more than 6 months then an EU licence is required.
