Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more and more popular in Germany and Europe.
That’s mainly because they’re a big step forward for the environment. They don’t send emissions into the air, so they don’t contribute to greenhouse gases. On top of that, EVs run smoothly, accelerate with a lot of power and operate incredibly quietly. Plus, Europe is well set up for them, with more than 300,000 charging points across the continent.
Here at SIXT, we offer a variety of EVs, so you can choose the right one for you. For efficiency (and easy parking!), go for a compact car. For a touch of luxury, choose a fancy model, such as a Mercedes-Benz EQS.
Discover the wonders of the Rhine-Main region conveniently with a hire car.
Take a boat cruise on the Rhine River, which is roughly 20 minutes by car to the west of the airport. 20 minutes east, in the Frankfurt city centre, there are some of the capital’s greatest landmarks: the enchanting Römerberg, the old town centre; the Palm Garden, considered the largest botanic garden in Germany; the Frankfurt Cathedral, and the Goethe House and Museum.
Go for a stroll on the embankment and visit the Iron Bridge, another popular destination with tourists that sits right on the river Main.
With the keys to your Frankfurt Airport car rental in your hands, you’re free to explore the city and its surrounds at a pace that suits you.
To get your bearings, start the morning with a guided tour through Frankfurt’s new Old Town. This one-hour saunter takes you past St. Bartholomew Cathedral; the Paulskirche, where Germany held its first National Assembly in 1848; and numerous spots where the country’s most famous writers lived and worked.
In the afternoon, leap into the present in the Financial District, home to the European Central Bank and the Deutsche Bundesbank. Head up to the top of the Main Tower, Germany’s fourth tallest skyscraper, for fantastic views. Once you’re done, you’ll be ready for an evening in one of Frankfurt’s traditional taverns, feasting on sausages and sipping on apfelwein (apple wine).
The next morning, make tracks to Die Kleinmarkthalle, one of the biggest and best of Europe’s many food markets. Sample your way through more than 150 stalls across 1,500 square metres, peddling everything from great coffee and delicious pastries to cheese and wine.
Wind up your weekend with a wander along the Museumsufer, a strip that’s home to more than 16 museums – covering everything from film and architecture to Jewish culture and German history.
