The airport has recently seen an intensive extension project. Hurghada is a city that is regularly visited by tourists from across the world; the city owes much of its popularity to the beautiful Red Sea coastline, in close proximity to the airport. The area is one of the premier resorts in Egypt; visitors with access to a car hire facility may wish to make the wonderful drive along the coast of the resort (which stretches for 22 miles). The Al-Mahmeya National Park is a particularly beautiful spot for relaxing in the sun. Another wonderful spot is the Sharn El Naga beach (especially good for snorkelling).
