About Varna Airport

Varna Airport (VAR) (also known as Aksakovo Airport) was opened by the Bulgarian postal services in 1916. Originally little more than an airfield it has grown into Bulgaria's most important airport. The airport owes much of its success to its location on the Black Sea, home to a great number of popular resorts. The airport was renovated substantially in the middle of the 1970s and hopes to complete further work over the next decade. The planned improvements will further improve a facility which already offers a great deal to its customers. One popular facility is the reliable car rental service provide by Sixt from the airport.

Things to see and do in Varna

Varna is an historic city which hosts a number of modern attractions. Archaeologists have found remains at the city which date back over five thousand years. These remains include the oldest ever golden treasure; more details of the extraordinary history of this region are available at the renowned Archaeological Museum located in the city. Tourists may wish to take a road trip out of the city in order to visit the fabulous Golden Sands beach resort, where you can enjoy a swim in the warm Black Sea. Another option is the famous Boris Georgie Art Gallery.

This is not the first time we've used Sixt rental and we are continually pleased with the service. We were greeted immediately upon arrival by name. The assistant at the desk got us set up quickly and personally took us to the car. Everything was in excellent condition. We had pre-ordered car WiFi and this was amazing, as it was a portable WiFi router (smaller than a cellphone) and it allowed us to have internet connection wherever we went (inside the car, it in the city, and even while hiking). This really made our trip. No need to mess around with a Sim card or cellular company. The car handled very well and the milage was incredible (620km on 3/4 of a tank). On returning the car to the parking, a Sixt representative happened to have just parked his car next to us and offered to check over the car then and there to speed things up. After the car check, he walked us over to the booth where we checked out in about 2 minutes. Highly recommended!

I would like to thank the excellent service of Nikolay Georgiev who works at the varna airport branch. On very short notice he went the extra mile to arrange me a car at very short notice as another supplier did not accept American express. I told him that i had an urgent meeting and he did everything he could to find me a car instantly. Even walking to the cafe where i was waiting to let me know all was ready. The service was excellent and its nice to know that they have employees who understand the needs of their customers. Thank you, will use again.
